Happy Valley Bowling Club is a long-standing Clacton sports club, it has been part of
Tendring District Councils Happy Valley Sports Ground since the 1950’s.
The original sports ground included a golf putting course and tennis courts as well as a
bowls green. The cost to play each was 6d (sixpence) per person with free parking.
Refreshments were available at ‘popular prices’!
Happy Valley Bowls Club formed in 1950 and had the men had their first Tendring Hundred
League season in 1951, this was followed by the inclusion of lady bowlers shortly
afterwards.
The club had to disband in 1957 when the council terminated the use of the bowls green
following issues with an increase in fees.
However, by 1962 the club was back on the green and in 1965 they re-joined the Tendring
Hundred League in which both the ladies and the men still play today.
